God’s Plan: How The Lord Fights For His People

Slide I. If you are ever going to do anything for God whether big or small you are going to have to learn how to deal with opposition.
Slide II.   2 Timothy 3:12  “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,”
Slide III.  “Practically speaking, no wall means no city, and no city means no temple. No temple means no presence of God, and no presence of God means no military strength, no justice, no civilization and no need for walls. The temple and the walls are united in a society founded on God’s “covenant and steadfast love”
-Mark Roberts
Slide IV.  3 Ways That The Enemy Opposes God’s People
Slide V. Doubt & Discouragement
Slide VI.  Verse 4:1-3 says, “1 Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. And he said in the presence of his brothers and of the army of Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore it for themselves? 2 Will they sacrifice? Will they finish up in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, and burned ones at that?” 3 Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Yes, what they are building—if a fox goes up on it he will break down their stone wall!”
Slide VIi. “Everything we tried is not working,” “The election itself was the single most harmful event to the whole movement of reconciliation in at least the past 30 years,” he said. “It’s about to completely break apart.”
                 -Michael Emerson
Slide VIII. Nehemiah 4:4-5 4 tHear, O our God, for we are despised. uTurn back their taunt on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land where they are captives. 5 vDo not cover their guilt, and let not their sin be blotted out from your sight, for they have provoked you to anger in the presence of the builders.
Slide ix.  Fear & Intimidation
Slide XI. Nehemiah 4:8  “And they all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it.”
Slide XII. Nehemiah 4:!4 And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, x“Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, ywho is great and awesome, zand fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”
Slide XIII. Where is God calling you to stand your ground?
SLIDE XIV. Deception
Slide XV.  Nehemiah 6:1-4 Now when Sanballat and Tobiah and Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it although up to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates), 2 Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together at Hakkephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm. 3 And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” 4 And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.
Slide XVI. Nehemiah 6:10-13  Now when I went into the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was confined to his home, he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple. Let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you. They are coming to kill you by night.” 11 But I said, “Should such a man as I run away? And what man such as I could go into the temple and live?3 I will not go in.” 12 And I understood and saw that God had not sent him, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 13 For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me.
