Relationship with Jesus is Eternal Life

Passage: John 5:13–5:21

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life…his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life (13, 20c).”

“Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.  O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.  I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them (Jn. 17:24-26).”

“we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ (1 Jn 5:20)."

I. Through Jesus…we have friendship with God.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us (2).”

“For our sake, he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21).”

“And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (15).”

II. Through Jesus, we can fight for each other in prayer!

“If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life…”

“The best way to find yourself is by looking within yourself.” 91% of US adults and 76% of practicing Christians agreed “completely” or “somewhat” with this statement.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Cor. 13:7).”

“Who, then, commits the sin that leads to death? The person who rejects Jesus as the Christ and who does not love the believer commits this sin. He does not share in the fellowship of the Father and the Son (1:3), and is excluded from eternal life (4:12). He left the Christian community because he did not really belong to it (2:19). He had been a pretender.” Kistemaker

“For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt (Hebrews 6:4-6).”

“…if we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1:9).”

III. Jesus is eternal life.

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols (20-21).”
